Kinder Beauty Box Review: Is This Cruelty Free Box Worth It?

In the past year or so, I’ve been trying to clean up my whole lifestyle–beauty and skincare routine included. After hearing about Kinder Beauty Box (the vegan, cruelty free and clean beauty subscription), I knew I had to try it. Plus, I love getting stuff in the mail and that adrenaline rush when I know I’m about to open a box of something I’m gonna love. I’ve been learning more and more about the damaging chemicals that a lot of mainstream beauty and personal care companies use, so I’ve made it a goal to start slowly swapping out my old skincare products for healthier non-toxic ones. So without further delay, here’s my honest Kinder beauty box review covering box pricing, pros, cons and details about the brand and products. After this review, you’ll know for sure whether or not Kinder Beauty Box is right for you.

What is Kinder Beauty Box?

Recyclable cardboard box from clean beauty box subscription Kinder Beauty

If you’re reading this, you probably already know what Kinder is. But just in case you’re not completely sure, here’s a quick rundown of what it is.

Kinder is a clean, vegan, cruelty-free beauty subscription box. They send you animal- and eco-friendly beauty products valued at over $75 once a month.

You might receive products like serums, eyeshadows, essential oil blends, body care products, beauty accessories, even some wellness products–you just won’t know until you get it!

Who is Kinder Beauty Box for?

If it’s important to you that your beauty products be eco-friendly, cruelty free and vegan, then this box is for you.

Kinder beauty box is also for you if you like finding new products and getting surprises in the mail.

Who is Kinder Beauty Box not for?

If vegan, cruelty free beauty isn’t that important to you, then you might prefer a cheaper option like Ipsy or Birch Box.

Kinder might not be for you if you’re super particular about what you get in the mail. Since the items you receive won’t be based on your personal preferences, you may get something from time to time you wouldn’t have originally bought.

That said, if you’re the type of person who’s always on the hunt for new, clean beauty products and you like a bit of everything, then Kinder Beauty Box will be worth it to you.

Plus, if you get something in your box you really don’t want, you can join the Facebook group Kinder Beauty Swap to swap your item with another Kinder Beauty subscriber for something you do want.

How is Kinder different from other beauty subscription boxes, like Ipsy?

Ipsy Beauty Subscription

I tried the Ipsy beauty subscription box for several months. You may already know this, but Ipsy is a subscription service that allows you to answer a beauty preferences survey where they ask you about things like your skin tone, eye color, hair needs, makeup preferences, etc.

Ipsy then curates a beauty box for you, personalized and based on those details and preferences. The size of your products is based on your subscription. The cheapest option is the Glam Bag ($13 per box), which contains 5 deluxe sample-sized products.

If you pay for more, you get the Glam Bag Plus ($28 per box), which contains 5 full-sized products. You can also upgrade to the Glam Bag X, which includes 7-8 full sized products curated by a celebrity that you receive every 3 months. Glam Bag X is $55 per quarter, but you must be already have a monthly Glam Bag or Glam Bag Plus plan.

Birchbox Beauty Subscription

Birchbox has a similar system, although from what I hear (since I’ve never signed up to Birchbox), they typically send you 4-6 deluxe samples of makeup, skincare, fragrance, hair care, or body care. Birchbox’s monthly and 3-month plans are both $15 a month, their 6-month plan is $14 a month, and their 12-month plan is $13 a month.

Kinder is different from those beauty box subscriptions in a few ways:

  1. Like I already mentioned, you don’t fill out a “preferences survey.” Kinder sends every customer one of the two boxes they send out each month, with each box containing 5 products in a variety of full sized or deluxe sample size. Each box is valued up to $165.
  2. They are literally founded by activists, so you know that every product is going to be healthy for animals, you, AND the environment. Win-win-win.
  3. Nearly all products are full-sized. So if you find something you love, you’ll have a decent supply of it.

How it works + billing

Kinder Beauty box allows you to choose from 3 subscription options:

  • Month-to-Month = $25 a month
  • 3-Month = $24 a month
    • Prepay $72 for 3 boxes
    • Includes a bonus beauty box worth $75
    • Delivered monthly
  • 6-Month = $23 a month
    • Prepay $138 for 6 boxes
    • Includes a bonus beauty box worth $75
    • Delivered monthly

After you choose your subscription, your first box (the Welcome Box, which is full of customer favorites) will ship within 3-5 days. You’ll be billed on the first day you sign up.

After that, you’ll be billed on the 8th of each month, until you choose a 3- or 6-month subscription. In that case, you won’t be billed again until your next term starts.

U.S. residents get free shipping, and international customers pay $5.95 per box for shipping and handling.

Note: I wasn’t anticipating buying 3 months worth, so I went for the month-by-month payments.

Kinder beauty box review: 5 Reasons to Feel Good about Kinder

Kinder Beauty subscription box opened up and displaying non-toxic beauty products
Disclaimer: This is a box I didn’t review in this blog post because I bought an extra month and totally forgot to take pictures of the first 3 boxes altogether

Here are just a few things I love about this beauty subscription box.

  1. The obvious. It’s cruelty-free! No bunnies (or any other animals)  are harmed in the making of any of the products they send you.
  2. All products are free of parabens, sulfates, and a bunch of other sketchy ingredients, including micro beads. (Micro beads can cause tiny scratches to your skin, and might do more harm than good.)
  3. All products are vegan-friendly.
  4. Even the packaging is eco-friendly and made from 100% recycled materials. It’s both biodegradable and compostable. Even the ink used to print their logo is soy-based and eco-friendly. Talk about goin’ the extra mile!
  5. Every month, they donate portions of their proceeds to different animal rights and environmental causes. They’ve given to organizations such as ASPCA, Farm Sanctuary, Los Angeles County Animal Care Foundation, and more.

I tried Kinder beauty box for 3 months: Here’s what I got:

The Welcome Box *Spoilers!* (Retail Value: $101.99)

I didn’t snap a photo of the whole box, but here’s some of the products and me using them!

  • Dirty Lamb Ultra Night Serum ($52)
  • Fleur & Bee Eyes Eyes Baby Anti-Aging Eye Cream (value:$22)
  • 100% Pure Bright Eyes Mask (value: $7)
  • Medusa’s Makeup Eye Dust in Pennywise (value: $8)
  • Glov On The Go Makeup Remover (value: $12.99)

The Welcome Box is what every Kinder subscriber gets when they first sign up. It’s curated with five customer favorite products. Which is a little ironic, because the Welcome Box was the only box I got from Kinder that actually had some things in it I wasn’t in love with.

I lovedlovedloved the Dirty Lamb Ultra Night Serum the most out of the box. I’ve noticed a visible difference in my skin after my first night using it. My skin looked more supple, glowy, and my skin tone looked a lot more even.

The Fleur & Bee Eyes Eyes Baby Anti-Aging Eye Cream and 100% Pure Bright Eyes Mask were the two other products I loved in this Welcome Box.

The two products I could have lived without were makeup-related products, which is basically the only reason I didn’t love them. The Glov On The Go Makeup Remover and Medusa’s Makeup Eye Dust in Pennywise are nice to have when you wear makeup, but for someone like me who basically uses mascara and highlighter only, they weren’t something I would have typically got for myself.

That’s where the “cons” comes into play here. Without being able to enter your personal preferences when signing up for Kinder, you might get something you don’t absolutely need from time to time. But that’s where the Facebook group Kinder Beauty Swap comes in handy to exchange products you don’t want for something you do want.

Me Time Collection (Retail value: $82+)

  • Four Sigmatic: Mushroom Cacao with Reishi (Retail Value: $20)
  • All Good: SPF 30 Sport Mineral Sunscreen Lotion (Retail Value: $5.99)
  • Glaminizers: Serenity Oil (Retail Value: $21)
  • Rosatyque: Binchotan Charcoal Clarifying Black Mask (Retail Value: $6)
  • Joséphine Cosmetics: Lip/Power – The Bold Liquid Lipstick in Margeaux or Tiphane (Retail Value: $30)

In this specific box, I had zero complaints. I loved every single product and will get a lot of use out of them.

The Me Time Collection came equipped with basically everything you need for a day of self care and an in-home spa experience. soothing spa day at home experience.

For a DIY facial, the Rosatyque Binchotan Charcoal Clarifying Black Mask was wonderful for detoxing my skin and helping purge my pores of grime and oil. The Joséphine Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick in Margeaux added a touch of glamour for this lipstick-obsessed lady (a.k.a. moi). It’s also mask-proof and kiss-proof, so it doesn’t smear everywhere. I actually had to use my Milani Keep It Clean lipstick remover to get it off.

For a relaxing treat, the Four Sigmatic Mushroom Cacao Mix is my new favorite alternative to my usual calming evening tea. It’s a European-style hot chocolate made with a calming blend of cacao, cinnamon and Reishi mushroom to reduce stress and promote better sleep.

I honestly wasn’t expecting much for the calming effect, but I was pleasantly surprised when I got pretty drowsy and ready to sleep after drinking a cup.

In the spirit of the calming theme, the box also contained Glaminizers: Serenity Oil. It’s a soothing blend of peppermint, spearmint, lavender and eucalyptus, with an amethyst crystal floating inside.

I particularly liked the All Good Sport Sunscreen SPF 30. It’s a reef-safe sunscreen and as someone living in SoCal, this goodie comes in handy on the daily.

Shine On Box (Retail value: $130+)

  • Chicky Botanica: Serene Serum  – Retail Value: $56.00
  • Willing Beauty: DAYDREAM Illuminating Day Moisturizer  – Retail Value: $24.00
  • Derma E: Microdermabrasion Scrub Deluxe Sample  – Retail Value: $5.00
  • J&L Naturals: Shine Face Mask  – Retail Value: $19.99
  • Bellapierre Cosmetics: Mineral Blush in Amaretto  – Retail Value: $29.98

And now, we conclude with my very favorite Kinder beauty box, Shine On.

Y’all, my love for skincare is just out of this world.

Like I said before: I’m someone who doesn’t wear much makeup, so the appearance and health of my bare skin is so, so important to me. And this box had everything I needed.

Shine On box featured five items that were all about a minimal, facial skincare routine. With a lightweight face moisturizer, a calming facial serum, a microdermabrasion scrub, an eco-friendly clay mask, and a creme highlighter, my skin looks better than ever.

Twice a week, I use the Derma E Microdermabrasion Scrub after my regular cleanser to slough off dead skin cells for smoother skin.

About once or twice a week, I also use the J&L Naturals: Shine Face Mask. I really can’t emphasize enough how much I love this face mask. It’s made with just 4 ingredients, so it’s clean as frick. Mix a scoop of the powder with water to get a pretty, pinkish colored clay mask.

It’s made with mineral-rich kaolin and bentonite clays to balance oil production, restore damaged skin, draw out toxins, and calm inflamed blemishes. It also contains vitamin C-rich beetroot for a brightening effect, and orange peel powder help protect against signs of aging and amp up your glow.

I use the Chicky Botanica serum every morning to help even out my skin tone, reduce irritation and redness, and help your skin cells regenerate. (I still like to use the Dirty Lamb Ultra Serum from the Welcome Box in the evenings.)

Following the serum, I massage in the Willing Beauty Day Moisturizer. It feels light and smooth, and is packed with antioxidants. My skin always looks naturally glowing afterward.

Kinder Beauty Box Review Conclusion

So the bottom line is this: Kinder beauty box is absolutely, 100% worth it. I can say with complete honesty that this subscription is something I’ll be coming back to. As of right now, I’m content with my 3-months worth of clean beauty products since I’m trying to watch my spending habits lately.

But thanks to Kinder, my entire skincare routine is now clean and vegan. I’ve finished off my old eye creams, serums and moisturizers and made the transition to the clean beauty products I’ve received in my boxes.

The thing about Kinder is it feels like you’re getting a special, luxurious gift every month. I get so excited to see my Kinder box has arrived, and opening it is like a surprise party for my beauty and wellness routine every time.
